Collective Impact

Supporting the communities where we live and work is a cornerstone of Hearst's mission, and in 2025, colleagues around the world made a difference far beyond our organization. Through significant volunteer efforts, robust partnerships and collaborative initiatives, we gave our time and applied our skills to causes that help create positive change. Together, our collective impact brought connection, care and hope for the future.

Between Hearst colleagues and the Hearst match, we raised $8.4 million for more than 3,500 causes around the world and donated more than 27,000 hours of volunteer time.

Thank you for your generosity!

Following his passing, we honored the memory of Gilbert C. Maurer, director and former chief operating officer of Hearst and trustee of the trust established under the will of William Randolph Hearst. Over the course of 50 years, Gil guided the company through major expansion across magazines, television, cable and digital media, helping to shape Hearst into the modern organization it is today. An accomplished watercolor artist, a champion of Hearst’s art collection and the founder of the Maurer Family Foundation, which supports museums, architecture and cultural institutions — Gil left a legacy of civic and creative investment that enriched both Hearst and the wider world.

Steve Swartz:

President & Chief Executive Officer

“Gil Maurer lived a remarkable life. He helped build the modern Hearst corporation and kept working on it until the day he died. He was an artist, a civic leader, a savvy investor and philanthropist, and with his wife Ann he built a great family and found time to travel the world many times over. Our Hearst colleagues and I learned so many life lessons from Gil and we are forever in his debt.”

Frank Bennack:

Executive Vice Chairman

"For almost 50 years, he was my partner in general management, and during that time, Hearst became one of the fastest-growing media companies in the world. His performance as head of Hearst Magazines was superb, and he was my partner in the expansion of our newspaper publishing, cable networking, broadcasting and new media interests as well. The entire company and Hearst family feel his loss deeply. He will be missed.”
